When is the best time to move into a health services neighborhood?



The decision to move varies from person to person. In general, we encourage prospective residents to explore independent living while they are able to take advantage of all that Montereau has to offer, as well as our invaluable Life Care contract. If you or your loved one is to the point where you are considering assisted living, memory care or long-term care, we encourage you to contact us to discuss your options. Often, moving early offers a sense of rejuvenation that boosts quality of life for longer.

How will my long-term care insurance policy work at Montereau?



If you have long-term care insurance policy, you might be eligible to receive benefits if you need assisted living, memory care or skilled nursing. Your policy may work seamlessly with Montereau and pay earned benefits directly to you. You should consult your insurance carrier for specific details about your policy.

Which health services neighborhood is right for me or my loved one?



It’s best to start with a cognitive and functional assessment conducted by a Montereau healthcare professional, especially if you think your loved one may need more assistance than independent living provides. Once medical and daily living needs are assessed, our professional team will meet with you and your loved one to answer questions, provide information and help you reach the best decision for your loved one and your family.

What is assisted living?



Our assisted living options are ideal for people who can still live independently but need extra assistance with daily tasks – taking medication, bathing, dressing, meals, housekeeping, transportation and other everyday needs. A trained licensed nurse and certified nurse aides are available 24/7 to provide an individualized level of support while helping preserve an active lifestyle filled with friends, neighbors and family.

What is the difference between assisted living and home care?



The key difference between these two options is that Montereau Home Care offers services on an as-needed basis, while assisted living provides an easy-to-navigate setting that meets personal needs on a more ongoing basis.

What if my loved one needs more than what’s provided in assisted living?



As a Life Plan community, also known as a Continuing Care Retirement Community, Montereau offers a full continuum of on-site care. In addition to assisted living, we provide memory support, short stay rehabilitation services and long term care.

What is memory care?



Memory care, also called memory support, is essentially assisted living with specialized therapies and programming under the supervision of a dedicated team of professionals trained to care for people with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.

How do I know if memory care is right for my loved one?



What is the difference between Alzheimer’s disease and dementia?



Dementia is not a specific disease. It’s an overall term for what describes a wide range of symptoms caused by disorders that affect the brain. Dementia is associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills severe enough to reduce a person’s ability to perform everyday activities. Brain function is affected enough to interfere with a person’s normal social or working life. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia and accounts for 60 to 80 percent of dementia cases. Other types of dementia include: Vascular, Lewy Bodies, Frontotemporal and those associated with Parkinson’s or head trauma.

What is skilled nursing?



Skilled nursing offers more intensive care than assisted living, with around-the-clock support from licensed nurses and therapists. Skilled nursing may be for short-term rehabilitation—appropriate for people recovering from illness, injury, surgery or stroke who need intensive therapy and care to gain or maintain optimal well-being and health—or it may involve long-term nursing support.

When is long-term care appropriate?



Situations are as varied as individuals. Often, residents requiring long-term care have an ongoing health condition or permanent disability that requires care without hospitalization. They may suffer from chronic severe pain or the natural symptoms of advanced age that lead to frailty and need for 24-hour medical supervision.

What rehabilitation services are available?



The Chateau at Montereau provides short- and long- term rehab through physical, speech and occupational therapies. Residents who are recovering from illness or injury receive expert care from skilled speech pathologists and therapists using the most advanced treatments and technologies.

Can friends and family visit?



Of course! Montereau is your home, and family is always welcome to join you for dining and other activities. We also have guest suites available with advance reservations.
